In this week's episode we have another incredible interview online. One of the few music specialized audiologists (only 5 to 10 total) in the US. Dr. Heather Malyuk talks to us about ear health, musician life and more. In this episode we get into:

1) How common ear issues are with musicians in particular 2) The importance of having regular visits with your audiologist (testing higher frequencies too) 3) What are the actual issues you can have... it's more diverse than you think. 4) Heather's program she created that you can learn all about your ears, and if you run a music program can bring into your school. (https://www.soundcheckaudiology.com/curriculum) You definitely want to check it out. 5) Future of ear improvements!!!! 6) And so much more that you're not going to want to miss it.

Heather has been a musician and fantastic Violinist in the local Cleveland/Akron scene most of her life and Tim has been fortunate to do some work with her as well, including the track starting the show. Here is her bio from her company " Soundcheck Audiology" : Soundcheck Audiology is a mobile, concierge wellness practice founded by Dr. Heather Malyuk, a musician and audiologist who hails from Northeast Ohio, but is known internationally as an expert clinician and public speaker in the field of hearing wellness. S1E25 - How good can your ears get?

Episode Notes

We discuss the incredible way MJ wrote music, along with how that applies to music study, musicianship, etc... etc...Here's the article we discussed. Pretty amazing stuff.... and he couldn't read music. https://www.nme.com/blogs/nme-blogs/the-incredible-way-michael-jackson-wrote-music-16799 Is reading about music equivalent to reading about painting? If you want to be able to draw, at first you need to learn how to see (actually see)... to play music well, don't you have to learn how to hear? Actually hear?

S1E22 - Julliard price gouge, Music Education, Upset Everyone and antics

Honey, I shrunk Adam

Episode Notes

Well this started off well.... After shrinking Adam in the beginning, we talk about the shrinking pockets of musicians because of places like Julliard upping tuition over 15% this past year???

What gives? Also, would you send your musician child to music college? Or would you encourage a different route? (coming from 2 college music majors)...

Also, we talk about the number one thing that would help the music industry more than just about anything and that's lowering the age limit to who can go to bars. Not allowing 18 year old college students to go to shows really dampens things.

And we're just getting started. Here is the Two Set Video about Julliard where they do way better at explaining things than we do, and probably explains a big part why they're more popular and funny:

S1E21 - Dolby Atmos, 3D Audio, No artist input? What are you thinking Apple?

Lawnmowerman Music

Episode Notes

Apple Music recently updated their service to not only improve audio by offering lossless audio, but also are starting to roll out Spatial Audio via Dolby Atmos. However, it appears they're not all created equally. We talk about it on here. Starting music from Red Side Visible "A Break from Normality" record.

S1E20 - Analog V Digital part 1 of who knows how many: Wood Air Metal Guitar

Apparently not actually episode 19... we can't count that high. We're musicians.

Episode Notes

Plans... who needs plans. We quickly go from best laid plans and dive deep into the ideas of analog and digital, this was all inspired by the fact that Tim finally released the Red Side Visible record that's been about 10 years in the making. This includes 4 videos, and availability on streaming services

http://hyperurl.co/RedSideVisible2 (this handy link will get to popular services)

While discussing this release, it was mentioned how some have asked about getting vinyl, and while this sounds pretty amazing in principle, the costs make it very difficult to do in reality (without losing a lot of money). This all descending into... why even bother with records? Etc... You know the story, now hear us jaunt about it.

Oh... and go buy Tim's album ;-) Or at least add it to your playlists and share ;-) We're not pushy or anything.

Alright...till next time!

S1E19 - A Deeper Dive into the Spectacle with special guest Dr. Mark Worrell - Wood Air Metal Guitar Podcast

Have it "Your" Way.....

Last weeks episode on "Spectacle Culture" inspired a link being sent about the book "Society of the Spectacle" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Society_of_the_Spectacle from sociologist and guitarist extraordinaire (most importantly) Dr. Mark Worrell.

In this episode Mark imparts some serious wisdom on us, and I think we're still processing all the nuggets. I think your head will likely be turned around a few times with the thought process going here, and how we live in a spectacle society... ultimately fascinating stuff.

Mark has an impressive resume, with it looks like 7 sociology books? And many journal articles, etc... but also a killer guitarist you should check out. His sociological background : https://sites.google.com/view/marxheim/home?authuser=0

S1E18 - "Spectacle Culture" in Music. Wood Air Metal Podcast: Episode 18

Episode Notes

Adam and Tim tackle talking about the great video by Ali Jackson on "Professional Musician FACT checks Bill Maher" - https://youtu.be/SyYlV4-8Xvw

Much talked about about the idea of what is "good" music? Is it the top 1% and nothing else? Or should that really be more appropriately label the best entertainment? Music is a tricky subject, particularly on accolades as we all know (classical and jazz guitarist...)

How much skin do you have in the game?

Music by Red Side Visible from the song "Snap Crackle Pop" on the album "A break from Normality"
