Episode Notes

Adam and Tim catch up after a week off sharing the Brandon Coleman Interview.

First they talk about what they're up to now, mentioning the band Leprous, Tim's project -Red Side Visible, and some arrangements Adam is working.

Then we get into the main topic, where we discuss how a high quality instrument to start out might actually give a huge advantage and having cheaper instruments might really prevent you from ascending into some of the more "competitive" musician landscapes. In particular in classical guitar, you can be limited by your guitar. And even the fact that HQ instruments need time to get used to (think years) and to really learn the inside and outs.

In other words, playing a musical instrument is a lot more than playing the right notes.

Just like when you play that sample back of "Chopin" on your 50 dollar toy keyboard, that plays the right notes, but does it really play the music? Then Adam and Tim talk about upgrading your instrument. We are a bit limited on the acoustic front, but from an electric guitar, improving the wiring, changing pickups, pots etc... can make a significant difference in a guitar. Tim recently has been updating a lot of instruments and the differences are very promising.

The song playing in the intro is "Lucky 13" from Paul Stranahan's Insomnia, featuring Tim on guitar. Here's a link to the recording (but also available on your favorite streaming services).
